Our Practice
Our surgeons are all highly trained and board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. They treat all extremity problems and are a referral center for complex problems. All treatments are performed according to evidenced based medicine clinical practice guidelines. We do not recommend a treatment unless there is a solid proven clinical benefit for our patients.

Dr. Cook joined our practice in August 2006, and since her start has performed over 5700 surgeries. She completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction and sports medicine at the Insall Scott Kelly Institute in New York City. Dr. Cook is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and specializes in minimally invasive surgery. She is also a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America. She is the medical director of the brand new ambulatory surgery center, Comprehensive Outpatient Joint and Spine Institute in Odessa.
Dr. Cook has an avid interest in volunteerism and has been involved with the Good Samaritan Clinic of Pasco for over six years and currently is in her third year as Board Chair. The clinic provides free health and dental services to Pasco County residents.
Dr. Cook has been involved with the Perry Initiative for over a decade. This annual program allows local high school girls to spend a day with hands-on training in engineering and orthopaedics. The lab gives these young women an opportunity to practice suturing and perform surgeries on bone models.
She co-founded the charity organization WOGO (Women Orthopaedist Global Outreach).
Dr. Cook’s areas of expertise include primary knee, hip, shoulder, and reverse shoulder replacements, revision knee, and shoulder replacements, arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder, ligament reconstruction including primary and revision ACL reconstruction, primary and revision rotator cuff and labral repairs, instability surgery for the knee and shoulder, and fracture management. She also performs surgery for metastatic bone lesions. She treats all ages and can treat most pediatric orthopaedic injuries. She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Mates brings a new dimension of care to the community by addressing a variety of foot and ankle disorders. Under the mentorship of expert surgeons at the Andrews Institute—as well as team physicians for college and professional sports—Dr. Mates developed sophisticated orthopaedic techniques in foot and ankle surgery. He has specialized training in all foot and ankle disorders and sports injuries and brings a fresh perspective with a focus on prevention, rehabilitation, and enabling athletic performance at any age.
The cornerstone of his training is restoring function and decreasing pain. “My primary treatment goal is getting you back in the game pain-free—whether it is running, golfing, or gardening,” says Dr. Mates.
Often this can be accomplished with multiple modalities that can be performed in the patient’s living room with nothing more than a towel and a water bottle. For more severe disorders or injuries requiring structured programs, physical therapy or even surgery will be explored. According to Dr. Mates, “Athletes that require tendon and ligament repair or reconstruction, even cartilage restoration, can get back to what they enjoy—and we’ll guide you every step of the way.”
At Florida Joint Care Institute Dr. Mates treats a wide spectrum of pathology from the knee to the toes such as conditions like arthritis, malalignment, flat foot, nerve disorders, bunions, and hammer toes, to name a few. “The foot and ankle are very complex structures,” says Dr. Mates, “so we begin with determining the correct diagnosis with exam, history, and imaging. By doing this we avoid months to years of wasted time and money in boots, braces, and inserts with no relief.” As a medical doctor and orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Mates provides quality, patient-focused care by using evidence-based, peer-reviewed medicine. This means the treatment protocols are backed up with expert data and time-tested results from the orthopedic literature.
To maximize the comfort and convenience of the patient virtually every procedure Dr. Mates performs is in an outpatient setting. He understands time is valuable, and he makes it a point to explain the diagnosis and treatment options to each individual patient’s satisfaction.

Dr. Pashuck has joined Florida Joint Care Institute as our orthopaedic sports medicine specialist. He has a genuine passion for treating patients with musculoskeletal conditions resulting from overuse, injury, and arthritis.
His approach to helping patients is simple: Treat every patient like family. He specializes his care for every patient with a “do what is best for the patient” approach. This includes comprehensive nonsurgical management for many conditions. When surgery is indicated, he often utilizes innovative minimally invasive surgical techniques that can offer a faster recovery and improved outcomes for patients.
His experience serving as assistant team physician for the Miami Dolphins (NFL), Miami Heat (NBA), Inter Miami CF (MLS), Florida International University (NCAA), St. Thomas University (NAIA), and local Florida and Missouri High Schools enhances his ability to take the best care possible of all athletes at any level of competition, from recreational to professional.
Outside of the office, he cherishes time with his wife Sara, daughter Sophia, and goldendoodle Tiger. He enjoys a healthy and active lifestyle including regular exercise, multiple land and water sports, and going to the beautiful Florida beaches.
I completed my undergraduate degree at The University of Central Florida. Go Knights! Following, I earned my master’s degree at Barry University Physician Assistant Program. I have been in the Tampa Bay area for the past 5 years and really enjoy it here. When I’m not at work I’m visiting family, hanging out with my Rottweiler Bear, cooking something new, or catching a Dunedin Causeway sunset.
Originally from south Georgia, I attended the University of Georgia where I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. Following, I completed my master’s degree at Barry University’s Physician Assistant Program in Miami, FL. In my free time, I enjoy taking my dog to the dog park, trying new restaurants, and spending time at the beach in the sweet Florida sunshine! My fiancé is slowly converting me to a Buccaneers, Rays, and Lighting fan, but I’ll always be a Georgia girl at heart – Go DAWGS!
I received my bachelor’s in applied Physiology and Kinesiology from the University of Florida and went on to get my Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of South Florida in 2020. Since graduating PA school, I have worked in Neurosurgery along with Lung Transplant. I am a die-hard Tampa Bay Lightning fan, love country concerts, will never pass up a sunset, get too excited about going to the gym and enjoy long walks with my husky, Charlie. I am from Clearwater, Florida and happy to be providing orthopedic care close to home.
